What you smell Uncle Wyatt?

Smudgin on the hunt!

Smudgin and Wyatt napping

Life has been happy kaos. Who cares if I will lose my job in a few months. I had been going home at lunch to let Smudgin out of the kennel. This worked well for the first two weeks. Friday I had a meeting from 10:30 to 3:00 so I set her up for the day in the kitchen with the X-pen. I have now decided this is the way to go. This also works for those 1:30 a.m. wake ups. I have to get dressed and take her out. Well, this way I can cheat and she can just go on the puppy pads. She is holding her number two for the day which makes things much nicer. Images of puppy poo spread all over her and the floor - ick!

I have purchased puppy pads that you can wash. This are the only ones that hold up to the Smudgin test.

Smudgin has lost her puppy fat and her legs have gotten longer. She holds up well on our walks. The first couple of outings I looked like the scene from 101 Dalmations where Pongo wraps the leashes around the Darlings legs to introduce them. Of course in my version it is just me with three dogs wrapped around.

Smudge is very good at sit, down, beg, roll over and has been learning to ring the bell to ask to go outside. I was a bit worried about the biting but we have that pretty much under control. I think it was a phase. The needle teeth marks are fading fast.

We start puppy class Thursday and she gets to meet Dr. Pierce tomorrow. I am going with getting her microchipped. Ain't nobody taking off with one of my dogs!

I must mention that her sleeping in the kennel at the end of bed has gone astray. She starts out there but early morning crying and I grab her and tuck her under the covers until she wriggles too much which means "really gotta go potty".

Wyatt has been really, really good. After several NO'S! and be nices he will let the pup hold onto a toy in his mouth and will let it go if she pulls. He has never played so well with another dog. He has also been sighted playing with her while she darts in and out from underneath the bed.

Pix is Smudgin's play toy. They play so well together. She also enforces the law with the little one. Pix is doing much better after her latest anal gland debacle. She is almost finished with the Prednizone for whatever was wrong with her skin.

Pix and Wy have really been very obedient. I have had to cut back on their chow as they are all getting treats for being such good dogs! They have been patient with having to wait until I take the pup out and come back in for them. They have also been spending more time in the kennel so I can have some one-on-one with Smudgee.

Pix came across a vole nest and Smudgin got a whiff and taste of that. We will probably clear out all the pests in a mile radius - LOL!

Sunday I had a BEST RIDE EVER! Josie is just amazing. Which made me decide to enter the Dressage Schooling show. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. I will show while I can. This will be our last time with the old tests. Time to start memorizing the new ones.

We entered the key hole, barrels and obstacle course for the Fun Show this year. We had 17 seconds for key hole and 27 for barrels. As I just started keeping track of our times it seems very slow but progressing from just trotting to actually cantering around the barrels our time has improved. We took two fifths and a fourth. I had practiced backing during the waiting times. Did I over practice? Did I try to hard. I will go with I tried to hard. The pressure of competition ;)

I had the pups waiting in the rig while Josie and I had fun. I had taken them for a short walk to tide them over until I could spend time with them again. I brought everybody up to the barn so I could enjoy some of the tasty grub. One gal came running up and before I could say "Don't pick up the puppy", she had picked up the puppy and Smudge and wiggled out and was falling to the ground! I have super fast reflexes and catch her on the way down. Because she was a younger girl I didn't say anything but "You picked her up before I could say don't pick her up". I had to get away from her at that point. Thankfully Smudgin was not hurt at all. As a result, no one is to pick her up unless they kneel down and she would only drop a little distance.

Back to the kaos!
