Pixie had quite the surprise for me when I got home. Thank goodness I keep the pups in a kennel. She had ruptured her anal gland - yeeouch! I felt like the worse mom ever as I hadn't noticed. The night before she had acted like she was going to vomit so we went to bed with a towel. She never had any other symptoms - eats, drinks and plays. I wonder if the week of drugs from my last surgery made me not as aware. I took them outside so I could decide what I would do. In true Jack Russell fashion, she did her business and then located and partially killed a vole. Our first of the year. This will be awarded to both dogs as Wyatt finished it off. I knew then Pixie wasn't feeling well as she would have done a boa constrictor and swallowed it. It took some doing to get it from Wyatt. He likes to play with them like a cat. Throwing them around and pouncing on it.

I shaved Pix to see exactly what was going on. Previous research paid off as I realized it was her anal gland. After my research I had decided not to mess with them as we hadn't any problems - little did I know. I called the vet after cleaning the area. They managed to squeeze her in. I am also happy to report she has lost three pounds. She is getting in better condition to get bred to little Amos in February. She was scared, not her usual cocky self - she piddled on the exam table. They took her in the back to do the deed. They released the pressure and put antibiotics in. She is now on antibiotics and pain meds. I am to hot pack her as much as I can. Poor Pix! She was trying to jump out of the tech's arms when they brought her back to me. You could tell she felt better already. The area looks like a boil. We go for a check up the 17th. She will get her kennel cough which is the only thing she is due for. A couple weeks before she is to be bred she will get the STD test. These antibiotics will be totally out of her system and won't cause any harm to the pups.

As it was snowing, we decided to have a movie/hot pack night. it was suppose to be my first night riding since the Mohs.
