Mare's forelock is slowly growing in . . .

I removed the case to prevent the vignette but then moved when I snapped this shot.

Typical Wyatt posturing (or lack there of) when the horses are making too much noise . . .

This is a weekend to keep close and remember when it is the coldest part of winter. Saturday was sunny and warm - 60 something. What a lovely day for a trail ride. I had ridden Josie last night pretty hard so I figured she would be good today but decided to ride Western instead of bareback. The horses have been a little fresh with this nice weather. One boarder suffered a broken hip and needed a partial hip replacement. I had been house sitting all week and had limited gear, as a result our ensemble was half and half.

I warmed Josie in the updoor. A set of riders went out and I could tell Josie wanted to go with. I told her we were scheduled to go on the next tour. I had told the pups we were going for a walk so they followed along smartly. I told them out when I went into the arena and usually I am listened to. I look back to see Wyatt following along at Josie's heels. I got him to leave but he kept coming into the arena. Pix stayed outside of it and rested. Hmmm role reversal?

The leaves covered the muddy areas and there were times we slipped a bit. The path was dense with leaves and as we walked through you couldn't hear anything with the swishing of legs through the dry leaves.

Turns out I was glad not to have gone on the first trail ride. We had returned to our barn, I was sitting on Josie when there was a clatter on the driveway. Josie and I were both startled and turned to look to see Frank running towards us - uh, oh sans rider. Turns out she was okay. Well, there is our two, things happen in three's so I am being very careful.

Sunday, I started outdoors but quickly moved in as she was very preoccupied and high. Twitching at leaves fluttering. Saddle breaking in is coming along nicely. It is starting to fit like a glove. Josie quickly settled when I brought her inside and she was seeking the bit and responding to half halts. I worked on off my weak left leg, doing transitions and spiraling in and out. We had some extremely nice canter work. I give on the inside rein and she finds room to go to. We finished with both of us out of breath and sweating like crazy.

The past two days I have been trying to get her to roll in the indoor - she will have none of that. So we walked and walked to cool off. Dinner was waiting and she was anxious to get to it so I cleaned her up as best as I could and let her at it. The pups and I milled around waiting for her to finish so I could get more of the sweat off her. I have a feeling next I see her she will be very dirty from mud rolling.

Must do chores tomorrow and then Tuesday we ride again. Is it Tuesday yet?
