My Indian War Pony

Costumed War Pony

Runs with Beer partial costume
What a lovely day for a horse show. Thank goodness we were inside. It was blowing and snowing! There was no way I was going to be able to get Josie's costume ready and get up to the barn unscathed so I set up at the main barn.
We did three classes this year. Our barrels were our all time fastest! As long as I do what I am suppose to do she really turns around them barrels. We argued over cantering but she did pick up a lead and canter home.
Next was Figure 8. I thought we would do a figure 8 around some barrels. NO! A jump in go round the middle barrel, then to the barrel on the right, round the middle barrel, around the barrel on the left, back around the middle barrel and take the jump out. It was just a few inches off the ground, maybe six but Josie's knees are not closed yet and we have only trotted over poles on the ground so both ways I came back to the walk and walked over which killed our time. She again turned the barrels very well.
We had plenty of time to get ready for the costume class. Good thing - when I tried to draw a circle on Josie's neck she kept moving and it looked like . . . well, it didn't look like anything. I traced my hand on her left butt cheek and made waves on her right using blue. I tied a feather onto her rein up by her bit. I had a feather which I put in my hair and made lines on my face. Josie had her rhythm beads on with the matching piece put in her mane. I had my chaps on with moccasins. I rode her bareback. Mind you smooth leather chaps make for a slippery ride . . . luckily she didn't shy at anything. My bareback skills are coming back with every ride.
When it was my turn to go in front of the crowd, I went up screaming and said, "My name is" and then I messed up my name. But quickly covered with "My name is Runs with Beer and maybe I have too much beer already. This is my War Pony Rebel Rosebud, also known as Josie. She very brave, we run at you and your horse and then we run away."
It was a lot of fun. We didn't win anything but Josie and I did well as a team. I did win two silent auction items, a hand made lead rope and a jumping crop. I should have got our times last year and this year to see our improvement. It is so nice to ride a horse that you don't have to worry about what they will do next. I will say she doesn't like witches. I don't either so it is okay by me.
I felt bad keeping her off the grass all day but I think she appreciated the extra grain and treats in her evening meal served by yours truly.
Because of Pixie, Wyatt and Pixie were kept in the kennel most of the time. She has become a bit of a vixen. I was too busy with Josie to put a stop to it so I kenneled her and Wyatt. Poor Wy had to suffer because of the evil wench. Pix just needs a good tune up. We go through this after she has returned to normal from being in season.
Runs with Bear and Lisa the Lion Hearted went for beers with W. We have him a good laugh. L's costume was great! It was silver shiny to look like mail. She also had a way cool sword. Kans was braided with a basket weave look and had a lovely white bridle on.
I had P take some pictures of us and I will TRY MY HARDEST not to double expose them and get them turned in right away so you can see the entire costume.
